Public hearing
In processing citations the Comité offers citizens an opportunity to assert their rights, and police officers, wildlife protection officers, special constables, highway controllers and UPAC investigators, a defence before an authority that is accessible, independent, impartial and specialized in matters of police ethics.
When police officers, wildlife protection officers, special constables, highway controllers or UPAC investigators are held accountable for alleged breaches and omissions, the Comité de déontologie policière holds a public hearing. The hearing is public unless the Comité orders that it be held in camera.
At the hearing, the Commissaire must prove the alleged conduct of the police officer, wildlife protection officer, special constable, highway controller or UPAC investigator based on the rule of preponderance.
