Police officers, wildlife protection officers, special constables, highway controllers and UPAC investigators are cited before the Comité de déontologie policière (administrative tribunal) for alleged breaches or omissions :
- when, at the end of his investigation, the Commissaire à la déontologie policière considers that the evidence warrants it;
- or if, following an application for review, the Comité orders that the Commissaire file a citation.
The Commissaire also refers to the Comité, by citation, any final decision rendered by a Canadian court which finds a police officer, wildlife protection officer, special constable, highway controller or UPAC investigator guilty of a criminal offence that also constitutes a breach of the Code of ethics.
